Nancy Buitendorp, 72, of Grinnell died of complications of pneumonia Friday, Dec. 14, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with Rev. De Dawes officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist was Milton Severe. Casket bearers were Chad and Jennifer Anthony, Megan Buitendorp, Michelle and Ron Dalby, Kathy Ferguson, and Joe and Steve Scurr.

A graveside service was held Monday at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 20, 1929 in Cedar Rapids to Joesph Clark and Francis Violet Lippincott Scurr. She lived in West Bend and Grinnell, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1947. She attended the University of Iowa and received a nursing degree from St. Luke's Methodist Hopital in Cedar Rapids.

On Oct. 19, 1952, she was married to Colon Buietendorp in Grinnell. They lived in Milwaukee, Wis., where she worked as an industrial nurse. In 1953, they moved to Grinnell and she worked as a staff nurse in various departments of the former Community Hopital. From 1957 to 1986, she worked for the city of Grinnell as a visiting nurse, and from 1968 to 1985, she was a field nurse and later administrator of the Poweshiek County Home Health Department.

She was past president of the Iowa Association of Home Care and a member of the board of directors of the Iowa Council of Home Health Aides, the Iowa Public Health Association, Grinnell Regional Hospice and Caring Adults. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and served in the women's society and the choir. She was a member of the Soroptimist Club and a past martron of the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are one daughter, Sue Anthony of Indianola: one son, Jim of Washington; four grandchildren, and one brother, Harry Scurr of Gilman. She was preceded in death by her parents.
