REV. ELMER GALT
DIES SATURDAY
WHILE AT EXIRA

The Rev. Elmer Galt, 635 Broad Street, died Saturday at the home of his son, the Rev. Ralph Galt of Exira, Iowa. He had been ill for the past eight weeks.

A memorial service will be held here Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational church. Dr. Judson Fiebiger, executive of the Iowa Conference of the United Church of Christ, Dr. Royal Montgomery and the Rev. Ralph Beebe of the Mayflower Home, and the Rev. Robert Dewey, pastor, will officiate.

Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Rev. Galt was for 40 years a missionary in China under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions of the Congregational Christian Churches. Later, he served in Hong Kong where he was responsible for many of the activities of Church World Service.

He had resided in Grinnell since March of 1956 and was closely associated with Mayflower Home, the First Congregational church, and several community enterprises of a service nature. He had been area director for CROP and for the interdenominational continuing clothing drive for the past few years. He also served as an adult church school teacher and until recently as chairman of the World Service Board of the First Congregational church.
