Hugh E. Hanson, 105, of Grinnell died of a liver ailment Sunday, May 23, at St. Francis Manor.

A prayer service was conducted Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Judy Wadding, associate pastor of the Grinnell Methodist Church, officiating. Masonic Rites were conducted by Robert Willett and members of the Grinnell Masonic Temple. A gravesite service was held Wednesday morning at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

He was born April 22, 1894, at Cedar Rapids to Elliott and Ella Gates Hanson. He was raised in Cedar Rapids and attended public schools there. He also attended the Walton School of Commerce. Following his education, he lived in Des Moines.

He was married to Iru Lippincott Dec. 11, 1937 in Grinnell. They lived in Chicago from 1937 to 1963 and Mr. Hanson worked as an auditor for the Rock Island Railroad. The couple moved to Grinnell in 1963 and he worked as a carpenter. He also worked in the equipment room of the Physical Education Complex at Grinnell College.

He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the Masonic and Shrine organizations in Cedar Rapids and Newton.

There are no immediate survivors. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Frances E. Cook.
