ZINIA PHILLIPS

Zinia M. Phillips, 76, of Grinnell, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Brooklyn Community Estates.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Church of Latter Day Saints in Newton. Burial will be in Westfield Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the Zinia M. Phillips Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Zinia was born on November 11, 1939, the daughter of Charles Sr. and Mirza (Smith) Wilson in Mississippi. She met and married a wonderful man, Charles Phillips. The couple lived in several places in Iowa before moving to Arizona.

She was a quiet woman, known by many as the woman with the big, floppy hat. Zinia enjoyed genealogy, puzzles, angels, birds and antique shopping. She was very involved with her church until recently when her health started to fail. Her greatest pride and love was for her family, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Zinia is survived by her children, Anita Kirkman of Brooklyn, Iowa, Chuck Kirkman of Oregon and Rick Kirkman of Arizona; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; her stepdaughters, Jeannie Robbins, Cathy Kinkade, Sherri Rockwell and Debbie Fauller; eleven step grandchildren; her siblings, Charles (Barb) Wilson of Rock Island, Illinois, Maurice Wilson of Michigan, Ronnie Wilson of Michigan, Marvin (Kandy) Wilson of Grinnell; Rollie (Judy) Wilson of Illinois; Ken (Shirley) Wilson of LeGrand and Frances Roland of Melrose, Iowa and her beloved cat, Midnight.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Jack, one grandson and one step grandchild.
