BONITA RAYE BORTELL

Bonnie was born on January 27, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa to Marty and Ferne Mack Ward. She was raised in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines Tech High School.

On July 16, 1961, she was married to Richard Bortell in Chillicothe, Missouri. The couple lived in Grinnell and she worked as a matron and meter-maid at the Grinnell Police Department and as a waitress at the Skel Diner, Pagliai's Pizza and the Longhorn Restaurant. For the past 10 years she was a security officer for the DNR at Rock Creek State Park near Grinnell.

Bonnie was a member of the Grinnell Fire Department Auxiliary and she enjoyed her craft projects, camping, fishing and wintering in Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Bortell; her children and their spouses, Neal Bortell, Lori and Andre Versendaal and Roger Bortell, all of Grinnell and Jeff and Kris Bortell of Sioux Center, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Ward of Des Moines; and three sisters, Elaine Dooley of San Antonio, Texas, Sharon Mastin of Marshall, Missouri and Linda Dragotto of Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
