MRS. IDA LAVENDER HAYS

Mrs. Charles W. Hays, who died of peritonitis after eight weeks suffering at her home in Chester on November 22, was the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. R.F. Lavender now of Wittemburg. She was born near Brooklyn in 1877, her death occurring on the morning of her twenty-eighth birthday.

While she was still a small child her parents moved to Polk City and later to Gilman where Mr. Lavender was for years pastor of the Congregational church. There she received her education and graduated from the high school. About six years ago the family moved to Wittemburg where her father was pastor of the Congregational church and there the deceased remained till her marriage to C.W. Hays a year ago last April. Since that time she has lived in Chester where they made their home.

Mrs. Hays is survived by her husband and little eight months old daughter, Lucile, her parents, Rev. and Mrs. R.F. Lavender, four sisters: Mrs. G.E. Buck of Newburg, Mrs. Anna Miller of Devil's Lake, North Dakota, Mrs. R.S. Mills and Mrs. Will D. Fanton of Newton; two brothers, Leslie and Dewitt Lavender of Gilman, all of whom were present at the funeral services which were held November 24.

Services were conducted at the house at 1 o'clock by the Rev. John C. Willits, presiding elder of the Oskaloosa district of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. H.C. Montgomery, pastor of the Sonora M.E. church, Rev. Geo. Jewell, pastor of the Chester Congregational church and Rev. Geo. R. Chambers, pastor of the Gilman Congregational church.
