MARJORIE M. ELLIOTT, 91

Marjorie M. Elliott, 91, passed away at Ramsay House of Des Moines Friday, Oct. 25, from complications of a stroke.

Her memorial service was Tuesday, Nov. 5, at First United Methodist Church of Newton at 6:30 p.m.

The daughter of Otho M. and Frances E. Sanders, she was born in Poweshiek County Dec. 11, 1910. She grew up there and graduated from Montezuma School. She later taught school at Montezuma for six years. She married Harold Elliott at Montezuma on Nov. 9, 1934. She moved to Newton in 1944 where her husband taught high school science and she was a substitute teacher in the elementary schools. She was also superintendent of the children's department at the First United Methodist Church for several years.

After her retirement from teaching, both she and her husband taught ball room dancing for the Des Moines Area Community College and Newton High School for 13 years. She, with her husband Harold, were owners of Elliott's Aquatic Wonderland.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; a daughter, Sonja Olson of Des Moines; a son, Mark (and Shirley) of Maxwell; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, two sisters and an infant son.
