RURAL GRINNELLIAN
KILLED IN CRASHA one-vehicle accident Wednesday night near Rock Creek Lake took the life of Terry Lee Benson, 22, of Rte. 2, Grinnell.
According to Jasper County law-enforcement officials, Benson was driving his late-model pickup truck east on Jasper county road F27 about six miles northeast of Kellogg when the truck suddenly swerved into the westbound lane, started to slide, and went into a ditch. The vehicle rolled over 1-1/2 times, coming to rest on its top and pinning Benson inside.
The accident, which occurred at 10:10 p.m., was investigated by Jasper County Deputy Sheriff Jim Verwers and State Trooper Simonsen.
RITES SATURDAY
Funeral services for Terry Benson were set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Russell officiating. Burial was to be at Our Silent City Cemetery, Kellogg, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The son of Jerry and Rosemary Lincoln Benson, he was born Dec. 26, 1954.
He attended schools in Grinnell, graduating from Grinnell High School in 1973.
Following his graduation, he was employed at Jerry's By-Lo and later at Farmhand, Inc., where he worked as a welder.
Survivors include his parents; one sister, Mrs. Douglas (Sherry Lynne) Sibert of rural Grinnell; two brothers, Brett and Bart, both of the family home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reed of Kellogg, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bates of Newton, and Mrs. Albert Lincoln of Monroe; and his great-grandmothers, Mrs. Josephine Banks of Monroe and Mrs. Rose Robison of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers.

SERVICES HELDFuneral services for Terry L. Benson, 22, who died in the crash of his pickup truck Aug. 31, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church.
The Rev. James P. Russell officiated. Organist was Betty Nikkel. Pallbearers were Mike Brown, Kyle Montgomery, Kyle Pedersen, Dale Puls, Jim Puls, John Stalzer, and Phillip Stepp. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Delwin Antle and Mr. and Mrs. Don Fleener.
Burial was at Our Silent City Cemetery, Kellogg, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
