SERVICES HELD

Orren Orville Benson, 76, of 1324 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died Monday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Keith Briggs, pastor of the Grinnell First Friends Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Flower bearers will be Wanda Larsen and Mary Lou Mikel. Pallbearers will be Frank Brown, Raymond Coburn, Charles Cunningham, Orrie Fudge, Thomas Lowry and Gerald Sarver. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Newton.

He was born May 18, 1902, at Searsboro, where he later attended schools. He moved to Kellogg and was employed by the Midwest Metal Stamping Company. He later moved to Newton where he worked with the Newton Automatic Washing Machine Company.

In April 1949, Mr. Benson went to work for the Maytag Company, working as a toolmaker. He retired in May 1970. While living in Newton he was active in CB radio activities. He was a member of the Grinnell First Friends Church.

Following the death of his first wife, Nina Coburn, he was married to Vivian Miller Lowry on April 7, 1969, at Searsboro.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Golda M. Bartlett of Montezuma; his wife; three step-children, Richard E. Lowry and Mrs. Keith (Shirley) Paulson, both of rural Grinnell, and Mrs. Don (Loretta) Cooper of Grinnell; 10 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Mrs. Albert (Goldie) Benda of Fairfield.
