ELMA TAYLOR

Elma Taylor, 92, of Grinnell died Thursday, Oct. 14, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson of the Grinnell Christian Church officiating. Organist was James Severe, and vocalists Delmar and Norma Sharp. Pallbearers were Keith Beaderstadt, Chad, Dustin and Jon Hauser, Ron Lowry, Randy Taylor, Harold Van Wyk and Herman Wyngarden.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

The daughter of Jesse and Jessie Meidema Wyngarden, she was born Jan. 16, 1901, in St. Jacobs Parochie, Holland. She emigrated to the U.S. with her family in 1908, settling in Sully. She attended rural school.

She was married to Francis "Leland" Taylor, June 17, 1919, in Grinnell. They lived in the Blue Point area before moving to Grinnell in the 1920s. She worked for Swift's, Howard Sage and Joe Pefferman, retiring in 1966. She had been a resident of Friendship Manor since 1988.

Surviving are her daughter, Betty Ahrens of Grinnell; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jessie Beaderstadt of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Dwight and two in infancy; two brothers, John and Ben Wyngarden; two sisters, Ella Van Wyk and Trina Heslinga; and three grandchildren.
