JUDGE A.C. LYON DIES
SUDDENLY IN WILMINGTON, DEL.
------------------------------------------------
Sad News Reaches Grinnell Thursday Evening of
Passing of An Honored and Beloved
Citizen--Funeral Will Probably
Be Held Monday.
------------------------------------------------

A real shock was received by Grinnell people late last night and early this morning when it was learned that Judge A.C. Lyon had died quite suddenly of "acute dilation of the heart" at a hotel in Wilmington, Del.

As our readers know, Mr. and Mrs. Lyon left Grinnell about two weeks ago for an extended trip. Wednesday they started from Washington for New England and got as far as Wilmington, Del. Mr. Lyon was not feeling very well and a doctor was called who gave him an examination and reported that he would get along nicely. Sometime later Mrs. Lyon became more alarmed and called in another physician whose report was not so encouraging and alarmed her more. However, the Judge seemed to get some better and in the afternoon for a short time she left him to go to the telegraph office to send a telegram to her father. Before going she asked the matron of the hotel to step into his room during her absence. She did so and told Mrs. Lyon on her return that she had been in the room fifteen minutes before and found him all right, but when Mrs. Lyon entered the room he had passed away. Apparently, he did without any pain.

There had never been any indication of this trouble before and none of his relatives had any intimation that he was in any way in a dangerous condition. They knew, however, that the accident which occurred last fall when he ran into a car southwest of Kellogg, resulting in the death of Bolen Young, preyed upon his mind and was a source of serious sorrow to him.

The Judge has always been recognized as one of the kindest hearted of men. On the bench there has been some feeling among law enforcing officers that he exercised much leniency toward offenders who were brought before him. Probably no more tender hearted man ever lived and frequently an offender was put off with a mere brief manly lecture exhorting him to be obedient to the laws.

The death of Judge Lyon is a serious loss to this community and an unusually large circle of friends will regret his sudden death. Much sympathy is extended to his wife for her great loss and the unusual circumstances which surrounded the death of her husband.

Mrs. Lyon is leaving their car at Wilmington, and will arrive in Grinnell with the body Saturday afternoon on number Seven.

At this time it is believed the funeral will be held Monday.
