ON TUESDAY FOR
PEARL HAYS, 77

Miss Ada Pearl Hays, 77, former longtime resident of Grinnell, died Saturday morning at a nursing home in Altoona where she had made her home the last two years.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. G.S. Bruland, minister of the Methodist church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Rhee Auman.

Pallbearers, all nephews,, will be Ansel Hays, Max Hays, Clifford Sexton, Perry Sexton, Charles Smith and Howard Smith. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

She was the daughter of Maria Ludwick and Joseph T. Hays and was born in Chester township on Apr. 9, 1883, and attended the local rural schools near the family home in the Sonora neighborhood. She graduated from Capitol City Commercial College.

For a time she was a receptionist in the office of Dr. Padgham and later served as a dressmaker and a seamstress. She and her friend, Fern Findley shared almost 30 years together in the family home.

Miss Hays took an active interest in the Methodist church and belonged to the W.S.C.S. of the church. She also had been a member of the D.A.R. and the Order of Eastern Star.

Miss Hays is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Sexton of Mitchellville and Mrs. Lizzie Smith of Newburg. She also is survived by 13 nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, whom she cared for and helped in maintaining their home, and three brothers, William, Albert and Robert.
