Pella – Funeral services for Raymond E. Simbro, 71, of 1153 216th Place, Pella, a native of the Dunreath area southwest of Monroe, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Van Dyk–Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
The Rev. Dan Visser will conduct services.
Burial will be in Dunreath Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Simbro died Monday, March 25 at the Pella Community Hospital.

Survivors are his wife, Evelyn; her five children and their spouses, Raymond and Eva Sparks of Monroe, Diana and Bernie Brown, Sheila and Terry Benz, Donna and Marvin Kendall and Jerry Sparks, all of Pella; 15 grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Burton of Monroe and Eugene of Knoxville, a sister, Arlene (Mrs. Bill) Hicks of Newton, three half–brothers, James Simbro of Grinnell, Dennis Simbro of Baldwin, Wis., and Ronnie Simbro of Melroy, Ind., and two half–sisters, Betty (Mrs. Jr.) Shinn of Knoxville and Sharon Witterling of Cadatt, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, LeRoy, and a sister, Viola Dietrich.
As a young man Mr. Simbro drove a semi–trailer truck, was employed by the Newton Foundry and later worked for the Iron Workers, Local 67, in Des Moines.

The son of Charles and Nellie Peacock Simbro, he was born Feb. 4, 1925 in Marion County.
He was educated in rural grade schools near his home.

Mr. Simbro also resided in the Runnells area but since June 1984, he and his wife, the former Evelyn Kool Sparks, have spent winters in Texas and other seasons of the year at their residence in the lake Red Rock area.

Raymond E. Simbro, 71, of Pella died of a liver ailment Monday at Pella Community Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, with burial in Dunreath Cemetery near Monroe.

Mr. Simbro was born in Marion County and formerly lived in the Runnells area. He retired as an iron worker for Local 67 in Des Moines.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; two stepsons, Ray Sparks of Monroe and Jerry Sparks of Pella; three step daughters, Diana Brown, Shelia Benz and Donna Kendall, all of Pella; five brothers, Burton of Monroe, Eugene of Knoxville, Jim of Grinnell, Dennis of Baldwin, Wis., and Ronnie of Melroy, Ind.; three sisters, Arlene Hicks of Newton, Betty Schinn of Knoxville and Sharon Witterling of Cadott, Wis.; 15 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
