DIED TUESDAY;
SERVICES ARE TODAY

Mrs. E.S. Evans, widow of the late prominent Grinnell doctor, died suddenly Tuesday morning at her home. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church with Dr. Royal J. Montgomery in charge. Survivors include a son Robert of Grand Rapids, Mich., and a daughter, Mrs. Royce G. Minier of Knoxville, Tenn., who with Mrs. Evans and Mr. Minier and Evan arrived in Grinnell Wednesday to attend the services.

Other close relatives who have arrived to be present are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Evans of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sidwell of Iowa City, the latter the former Dessa Reynolds; Bradley White, of Van Nuys, Calif., the son of Mrs. Betty Reynolds White, and Mrs. Alice Evans Hardin of Kansas City, Mo.

Mara Baldwin Evans was born July 19, 1883, at Whitewater, Wis., the daughter of Guy Lawrence and Julia Spooner Baldwin. Her parents died at an early age, and her mother's sister became her foster mother.

In 1907 She graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, and on July 29, 1908, she was married to Dr. Evan Stark Evans in Bizbee, Arizona. The Evans' moved to Brooklyn where Dr. Evans was practicing, and in 1909 they came to Grinnell which has been Mrs. Evans' home for the past 40 years.

She is survived by her two children, Julia Gwendolyn, Mrs. Royce G. Minier, of Knoxville, Tenn.; Robert David of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a sister, Ethalred, Mrs. C.F. Thompson of Bizbee, Ariz., and a grandson, Evan Minier of Knoxville. One brother, Lawrence, preceded her in death, in addition to her husband.

Mrs. Evans was an active member of the Congregational church, the Searchlight club, Grinnell Chapter, D.A.R., American Legion Auxiliary, Spanish War Veterans Auxiliary, and Eastern Star. She was also a foster mother to several children, who the Evans' took into their home until they could carry on themselves. She has been an angel of mercy in many Grinnell homes using the talents of her profession.

Organ music for the memorial services was played by Prof. Norman Goodbrod. Pallbearers were Carl Child, Croft Pilgrim, D.H. Thomas, M.E. Scandrett, Lyman Case and J.G. Shifflett. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.
