HAROLD A. WHITCOMB

Harold A. Whitcomb, 78, of Grinnell died Monday, Nov. 18, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Pickles of the Montezuma United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler.

The body was cremated. Memorials in Mr. Whitcomb's name may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.

The son of John and Lillian Terpstra Whitcomb, he was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Grinnell. He was a 1931 graduate of Grinnell High School and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was married to Lois Brown Aug. 1, 1936, in Grinnell. The couple farmed in Jasper County until retiring in 1984. Mr. Whitcomb also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife; one son, John of Merritt Island, Fla.; a daughter, Joan Langevin of Charlottesville, Va.; one sister, Mary Renaud of Grinnell; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Russell.
