TRESSIE ANNA BURKES MCKEAG

Funeral services were held for Tressie Anna Burkes McKeag on Monday, Aug. 13, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Montezuma with Rev. H. Burr Bryant officiating. Music was provided by organist Miss Alice Underwood. Casket bearers were Ben Norman, Frank Wheeler, Gordon Alexander, Harry Burkes, Harold Wheeler and Gary Thompson. Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma with arrangements by Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma.

Tressie Anna Burkes McKeag, 99, died early Friday morning, Aug. 10, 2001 at the Shell Rock Care Center, Shell Rock, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church, Montezuma.

She was born Oct. 14, 1901 in Mahaska (county) near New Sharon, the daughter of George and Janie (Warren) Burkes. She joined the Methodist Church early in life and was always an active member. She graduated from Montezuma High School. On July 13, 1920, she was united in marriage with Ben McKeag. To this union one son, Harold Ben, was born and died in infancy.

Tressie taught school for a number of years. She and her husband also operated a café and filling station, but retired due to Ben's health.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben; a stepson, Lester Eugene McKeag; one brother, Harry Wm. Burkes; and three sisters, Edith White, Mayme Gibson and Inez Odegard.

Tressie is survived by one stepdaughter, Opal J. Norman; two grandsons, Clarence Norman and Ben Norman; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
