The Grinnell (IA) Herald
April 7, 1903

Mrs. Carrie Edson Chafee was born in Potsdam, N.Y., Sept. 11, 1861. When six years of age she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. H.K. Edson, and came to their home in Denmark, Iowa, removing with them to Grinnell in 1879. On coming to Grinnell she took studies in college, but her frail health forbade a full course. She served the college as librarian for some time and was active in all church work. She was married in July 1891 to Chas. M. Chafee, son of Mr. Miles Chafee, of Grinnell, and since that day she has been active with her husband in home and church work in Billings, Mont. The testimony has repeatedly come from the people there that she was highly esteemed and greatly beloved. After a short illness, she fell asleep April 3, 1903. She left a husband and two children to mourn their loss.
