ALBERT JACK LEFLER

Albert Jack Lefler, 82, of Cottage Grove, Ore., formerly of Grinnell, died March 25, 2008 of complications following surgery.

A memorial service was held April 19 at First Christian Church in North Bend, Ore.

The son of Edgar and Irene Marsh Lefler, he was born Feb. 7, 1926 in Keokuk. He was a 1943 graduate of Grinnell High School, then received the master of fine arts degree from Drake University in Des Moines in 1951. He was married on May 11, 1947, to Jean Tinnes in Grinnell. He served in the United States Navy on the destroyer USS Gearing during World War II. He worked for 32 years as a teacher including at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Ore, teaching art, photography and yearbook.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Jan Alvord of Longview, Wash., and Lee Ann Thompson of Eugene, Ore.; one son, John of Ashland, Ore.; and three grandchildren.
