DEAN VAN TOMME, 75

Dean Van Tomme, age 75, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at his home in Brooklyn. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.

Dean is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn; his children, Deana (Blair), Terry (Judy), Gregory (Linda), Lori (Steve), and Brian (Kristin), all of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren, Jeff Van Tomme of Des Moines, Chad Van Tomme (Shauna) of Monroe, Ryan Van Tomme (Carrie) of Grinnell, Terra Figland (Cory) of Norwalk, Neil Hall of Brooklyn, Tyler DeWitte of Brooklyn, Abbie DeWitte of Brooklyn, and Hunter Van Tomme of Brooklyn; and two great-grandchildren, Serenity and Harmony Rose of Monroe. He is also survived by a brother, Dale Van Tomme (Carol) of Guernsey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Frank.

Dean Eugene Van Tomme was born Aug. 29, 1936, in rural Brooklyn, the son of Camiel and Eula Gilbreaith Van Tomme. He graduated from BGM High School in 1953 and married Evelyn Ormiston on Feb. 17, 1955, at St. Patrick's Rectory, Brooklyn. Dean was employed for D.W. Hubbard Lumber Company for a year, then Foster TV and Appliance in Brooklyn for 10 years. He worked for Walnut Grove Products for 25 years. Dean also was a school bus driver for BGM Schools for 15 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, trap shooting and motorcycle riding. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn.
