DONALD F. DRAKE, 89

Mr. Donald F. Drake, 89, of Stratford, a former resident of Brooklyn, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at Stratford Nursing and Rehab. Center, Stratford.

Funeral services for Donald Drake were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 23, at Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Rev. Rod Rindahl, pastor of Evangelical Bible Church of Pilot Mound, officiated. Casket-bearers were Danny Drake, Daryl Drake, Robert Drake, Roger Drake, Richard Drake and Mike Kelly. Interment was in Kent Cemetery, rural Brooklyn, with military rites conducted by members of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294. A memorial fund has been established.

Donald Fred Drake, son of John Arthur Drake and Eva Marie (Fritz) Drake, was born near Brooklyn in Poweshiek County. Don received his education in Brooklyn. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked in the service department at the Chevrolet and Ford garages in Brooklyn. He was married to Lois Irene Fish on August 21, 1948 at Newton. They lived in Des Moines and Malcom, and most of their married life in Brooklyn. In recent years he lived in Boone until two years ago when he became a resident of Stratford Nursing & Rehab. Center.

Surviving are five sons, Danny, and wife Linda of West Valley City, Utah, Daryl, and wife Diane of Boone, Robert, and wife Martha of Pueblo West, CO., Roger of Glenmora, LA., and Richard of Boone; two daughters, Donna Kelly of Boone and Carolyn Drake of Boone; one brother, Allen Drake of Ames; two sisters, Mary Lou Drake and Dorothy Vyskocil, both of Cedar Rapids; eleven grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Lois, on December 2, 2011; three brothers and three sisters.
