PATRICIA JEANE KIES, 75

Patricia Jeane Kies, age 75, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Reynolds, Jr. officiating. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom. Memorials may be contributed to Camp Courageous or Grinnell Hospice.

She is survived by her son, Steven Kies of Brooklyn; three daughters, Connie Nelson and husband, Charles, of Texarkana, Ark., Cindy "C.J." Betson and husband, Al, of Vancouver, B.C., and Cathy Bennett and husband, Marion "Chip," of Lake In The Hills, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Andrew Nelson (Brandy) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Elizabeth and Zachary Bennett of Lake In The Hills, Ill., James Lugenbell of Emporia, Kan., Jeremy Lugenbell of Kingman, Ariz., Kristi Powers (Kevin) of Kilgore, Texas, Joe Petersen (Stephanie) of Douglasville, Ga., Scott Petersen of Davenport, and Robert Betson of North Vancouver, B.C.; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Phil Yount and wife, Donna, of Tigard, Ore., and Duane Yount and wife, Darla, of Avon Park, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne, in 1988; a brother, Bruce Yount; and a grandson, Charlie Nelson.

Patricia Jeane Yount was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Fred and Katherine Gross Yount. She graduated from Hartwick High School in 1951, and then attended Iowa State University and Western Illinois University. She married Wayne Allen Kies on July 30, 1953, in Kirsville, Mo. Patricia was self employed as a bookkeeper for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, the B.B.B, and the Columbian Club. Patricia enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.
