HELD AT MONTEZUMA

Funeral services for Clyde D. Hornbeck, D.V.M. were conducted by the Rev. James Seeber at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 9, at the Steffy Funeral Home. Miss Alice Underwood was the organist.

Casket bearers were Cecil Rauch, Harold Morgan, Dean McWilliams, Claudis Axtell, Jack Hopwood and Steven Van Dee. Interment was at Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River.

Dr. Hornbeck, 80, passed away in Montezuma on Monday, January 6.

The son of Mary Alice and James Hornbeck, he was born at Chillicothe, Iowa, on Jan. 12, 1888. He attended school in Chillicothe and graduated from St. Joseph Veterinary College at St. Joseph, Mo., in 1916.

On Aug. 24, 1915, he was united in marriage with Rose Mollert in Jamestown, N.D. They established their home in Missouri where he practiced veterinary medicine for one year. In 1917 he established his practice in Deep River which he maintained for 46 years.

Mrs. Hornbeck passed away in 1963 and he remained in his home until last October when he moved to the Carter Hotel at Montezuma.

He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son; an adopted son, James; two brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Evans of Des Moines and Arlene Rauch of Millersburg; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Hulda Foster and Ida Eakins, both of Albia, and Elsie Foglesong, of Ottumwa.
