JAMES E. CLARK
DIED ON SUNDAY
--------------
Early Poweshiek Resident Dies Early
on Morning of April 13, 1924.
--------------

The death of James Ewart Clark which occurred Sunday at Mt. Pleasant took away a Poweshiek man born in this county and a member of an old and respected family. He was born September 17, 1868, in Pleasant Township and grew up on the farm. He with other brothers entered the railroad business and for a number of years he was engineer on the Iowa Central. He was married at Marshalltown to Katherine Dwyer. For a time his home was at Joliet, Illinois, but for a good many years his home was in Grinnell where he served the city in the capacity of Marshal and special police. One son, Earl survives him who is now a senior in the State University of South Dakota at Vermillion, where he will graduate in June. Several brothers and sisters and many other relatives survive to mourn his loss.

He had been in poor health for a good many months and passed away early on the morning of April 13, 1924.

The body was brought to Grinnell where the funeral was held Monday afternoon in the Snyder Undertaking parlors. It was conducted by Rev. W.W. Woodburn, former Presbyterian pastor at Ewart. Two songs were sung by Mrs. W.W. Woodburn and Mrs. C.C. Hutchison. Rev. Mr. Woodburn spoke feeling words of comfort to the surviving relatives. Burial was in Hazelwood.

In James Clark were many excellent traits of character which were recognized by the business men of Grinnell. He was genial, always cheerful, accommodating almost to a fault and like many railroad men who have been trained in the work he would have given his right hand to do a service to a needy friend. These traits and a belief in his honesty won him the favor of many Grinnell people and this friendship he retained until failing health caused his removal from the community. There are many of us who will remember "Jim" Clark for the good which he possessed and as a kindly and cheerful man.
