RAYMOND RALPH ALBRIGHT

Raymond Ralph Albright, son of Lee and Della Albright, was born Jan. 22, 1912, and died May 21, 1914, aged two years, three months, and twenty-nine days.

Many will remember the heavy electrical storm of Sunday night, May 10th. Mr. and Mrs. Albright were living on the W.R. Scandrett place, seven and a half miles west of Grinnell. The house in which they were sleeping was struck by lightning. The first intimation the family had of its danger came when Mrs. Albright detected the smell of smoke. A hurried investigation revealed the fact that the house was on fire, and that it had gained such headway that escape by the stairway was impossible. Only one way of escape remained. Mr. Albright broke out a window, leaped to the ground, and caught the children, one by one, as Mrs. Albright dropped them from the window above. After this she dropped into his arms. The family, consisting of the parents and four small children, one just a babe, found first shelter in the barn, after which they walked thru the storm to the home of a neighbor, Mr. Beppy, a quarter of a mile distant. The following day the family was brought to the home of Mr. Scandrett in this city. The day following, Raymond developed a high fever. A physician was immediately summoned. Symptoms pointed to pneumonia which developed in spite of all that skill and care could do. As the case grew more critical, the child was removed to the local hospital, where, at about 10:30 last Thursday night, the child spirit passed from its pain-wracked body to be with Jesus. The parents mourn his loss, and many sympathetic friends mourn with them; but their grief is tempered by the knowledge that little Raymond is now beyond the reach of pain, safe in the presence of his Lord. "For of such is the Kingdom of Heaven."

The funeral services were held in the Scandrett home Saturday afternoon, Rev. Frank H. Webster officiating. Interment was in Hazelwood.

CARD OF THANKS

We wish to express our thanks for the kindness shown by our friends and neighbors during our misfortune caused by fire and for the sympathy shown during the illness and death of our little son, Raymond.
