Sarah M. Blakely, 83, of Grinnell died Monday, Aug. 20, at St. Francis Manor, following an extended illness.

The daughter of James and Alberta Weston McCool, she was born Oct. 30, 1889, at Le Claire, Iowa. She received her education in the Scott County public schools and was a graduate of Davenport High School. She also attended Grinnell College. For a number of years she taught in Scott County.

On Sept. 17, 1913, she was married to A. Judson Blakely at Davenport. Following their marriage they farmed south of Grinnell until 1950, when they retired and moved to Grinnell. Mr. Blakely preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1971.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mrs. William (Virginia) Lindsay of Aston, Pa., and Mrs. Gerald (Harriett) German of New Sharon; a son, Robert Blakely of McAllen, Tex.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Mae Stewart of Raleigh, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and a brother, Robert McCool.

Funeral services for Mrs. Blakely will be held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Newell E. Davis officiating. Organist will be Doris Nothnagel, and pallbearers are Robert D. Blakely, David German, Guilford Moore, Pierce Comerford, Donald Hasselbrink, and Hank Higdon. Honorary pallbearers will be C.M. Pilgrim, Leonard Evans, T.J. Moore, Hugh McCleery, Howard Hyde, Harold Stanley, George German, and F.A. Jones. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Blakely's name may be made to St. Francis Manor.
