David W. Wolford was born in Cumberland, Maryland, January 5th, 1852 and died near Brooklyn, Iowa, February 6th, 1909. He came with his parents to Ottumwa, Iowa, when but six years of age, where he remained until the year 1881. In this year he came to Brooklyn, Iowa, where he has since resided. He was married in the year 1888 to Miss Nellie York. To this union were born seven children, one of whom is dead. The names of those living are: Ethel May, Bert N., Douglas W., Maud E., Eva B., and Hazel V. These with the mother survive. He is also mourned by one sister, Mrs. Anna Miller of Ottumwa, Iowa, and three brothers, Jacob T. Wolford of Moorehead, Iowa, and Douglas and Samuel Wolford of Harrison County, Iowa.

He was a member of the order of Knights of Pythias. He was also a member of the Brethren Church in South Brooklyn. For the past two years, Mr. Wolford has been in ill health. While his death was sudden and his demise a shock to the community, yet to those who knew him intimately, his death was not a surprise. The deceased was a good husband, a kind father, a generous friend and an excellent neighbor.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and the community will mourn his death. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, the Rev. W. L. Clapp preaching the funeral sermon. The interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
