HOLLEY—Died at her home near Brooklyn, July 9, 1890, Mrs. S. L. Holley.

Mrs. Emma Holley, nee Smith was born in Jefferson county, N.Y., in 1853 and lived in that state till her marriage with Mr. S. L. Holley in 1869 when she came with him to Iowa, where they have lived together till her death. She was an excellent woman; a good and affectionate wife and mother and a steady faithful Christian. As wife and mother she made the home attractive and cheerful for her husband, children, and neighbors, and it is a great bereavement that she is cut off so suddenly from among us. She united with the Methodist church in Brooklyn, August 20, 1877 under the ministry of Rev. W. G. Thomas, since which time she has sought and gained the society and friendship of Christians everywhere she went. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor assisted by Rev. M. S. Hughes of Malcom, at the home. Her many friends brought tributes of flowers to decorate room and casket, where she lay as quietly sleeping with her sweet babe gently resting on mother’s arm. More than beautiful was the scene. It was sublimely pathetic to behold this faithful Christian mother clinging calmly in death to the fruit of the holiest work of human life. Fit symbol of her past fidelity and affection to her children.
