BARBARA M. NOWELL

Barbara M. Nowell, 89, of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell died on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, in the Carman Center of the Mayflower Home.

Born May 11, 1917, in Kansas City, Mo., she was the daughter of Charles and Lucy Burton Courtright. She grew up in Kansas City and received her education there. She also attended Stevens College in Columbia, Mo.

She married Jack Lammers and the couple lived in Omaha, Neb. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, she started a business, Barbara Lammers Personal Service. Her business was an employment agency for women.

In the early 1960s, she moved to Columbia, Mo., and worked as an administrator in the Office of Development at Stevens College. After the move, she met and married Jack Nowell; they were married for over 30 years. Following the death of her husband, she moved to the Mayflower Home in Grinnell.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational in Grinnell and also attended the Sit 'n Knit Club. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by her son Jon Lammers of Kansas City, Mo.; her daughter Kathy Tindall of Grinnell; three step-children, Mary Namerow of Hyde Park, N.Y., John Nowell III of Columbia, Mo., and Faye Nowell of Columbia, Mo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother.

Memorials in Barbara Nowell's name may be directed to either the Mayflower Home Human Needs Fund or to Grinnell Regional Hospice.
