Mrs. Jane Forgie, aged 81 years, a pioneer resident of Brooklyn, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9th, at Newton, Iowa.
Mrs. Forgie was the widow of Sam Forgie who preceded her in death 31 years ago. She was a native of Ireland and came to this country in 1872.
She resided on a farm south of town for the next 40 years, from whence she moved to Brooklyn.
She had been spending the Thanksgiving week in Newton with her friend, Mrs. Rose Casebeer, when the attack of pneumonia overcame her. The acute sickness was of a short duration, lasting only three days. Her daughter, Mrs. J. A. Jenks, of Iowa City was summoned immediately and was with her till the end.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church of Brooklyn Monday at 2 p.m. The Rev. W. W. Woodburn of Grinnell, the former pastor of Fairview church officiated. She is survived by an only daughter, Mrs. J. A. Jenks of Iowa City, three grandchildren, Mr. O. J. Jenks of San Francisco, Cal., Mrs. F. R. Dvorsky and Miss Genevieve Jenks of Iowa City. Burial was made at the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Brooklyn.
