LEONARD L. BUSBY, 80

Leonard Lathol Busby, 80, of Montezuma, died at his home on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004.

His funeral service was Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Dennis Dorsheimer, of the Jackson Church of Christ, Montezuma officiating. Interment was at Union Mills Cemetery, Montezuma. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements. Military Graveside Rites were performed by members of Blakely-Stevens Legion Post No. 169, of Montezuma.

Casket bearers were Bruce Potter, Dee Busby, Dean Vander Leest, Marty Vander Leest, Craig Potter, and Steve Audas.

Leonard was born Jan. 27, 1924, at Newton, the oldest of nine children, to Harold And Adella (Leatherman) Busby. He was graduated from Montezuma High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy for one year. He then drove a semi for many years. After returning to Montezuma, he worked at the Montezuma Municipal Light Plant for over 10 years. He moved to Sunnyview Apartments, Montezuma, in the spring of 1995, where he lived until the time of his death. He was active in the American Legion and was a Mason and member of KAABA Shrine. He enjoyed working in the garden, cooking, reading and talking about the past.

He is survived by three brothers and their wives, Norman (and Olwyn) Busby, of Orlando, Fla.; Melvin (and Rosemarie) Busby, of Long Beach, Calif.; and Duane (and Bertha) Busby of Pella; two sisters, Dorothy Potter, of Grinnell, and Jane Audas, of Montezuma; eight nephews, four nieces, 12 great-nephews, seven great-nieces; one great-great-nephew and four great-great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marilyn Busby and Janice Vander Leest; and one brother, Don.
