Elizabeth F. Gwin was born in Holmes county, Ohio, Feb. 22, 1839, and died at her home in Brooklyn, Iowa, July 17, 1900, after a short illness resulting from paralysis. The funeral was held in the M.E. church conducted by Rev. I. N. Busby and A. V. Kendrick and interment in the I.O.O.F cemetery, a very large concourse of sympathizing friends being present to pay a last sad tribute of respect to one whom they had known and respected for many years.
The pall bearers were Mesdames C. D. Conaway, J. H. Tucker, M. J. Cain, Thomas Gauley, J. A. Bever and C. A. Drake.
The deceased was married to Elias Gwin in 1857 and by this union were born five children, one of whem died in early life. Those living and in attendance at the last sickness and death of their mother were: A. F. Gwin of Colorado, S. B. Gwin of Adair, Lillie B. Strine of Waterloo and James E. Gwin of Brooklyn. Mr. and Mrs. Elias Gwin were residents of this county several years prior to their marriage and were residents of this community since 1857. He was for many years one of the prominent grain dealers of Brooklyn and was well known over much of Poweshiek county. He was born in Holmes county, Ohio, in 1834 and died in Brooklyn July 25, 1891.
Those present at her funeral from a distance were: Mrs. Thomas Casell and daughter, Jennie, and Miss Jennie Gwin, of Marengo; Mrs. Bessie Soulee, of Des Moines; Mrs. Bair and sons, William and George, of Ladora; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Watson, Miss Sarah Sherwood and Mark Holmes, of Grinnell; D. Gwin and daughter, Mae, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Gwin, Mr. and Mrs. D. Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gwin, of Victor.
