DIES TUESDAY AT
COUNCIL BLUFFSMrs. Elizabeth A. Bartling, 79, widow of Frank M. Bartling, former owners of Bartling Jewelry Store in Grinnell, died Tuesday morning at Council Bluffs.
She had made her home at Council Bluffs since the death of her husband in 1958.
Requiem low mass was held this morning (Thursday) from St. Mary's Catholic church, with the pastor, the Rev. L.V. Kuebrich, officiating. Rosary was recited Wednesday night at Smith Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Don Cunningham, Joe Danforth, Leo Flanagan, Michael Hotchkin, Fred W. Johnson, and Charles Vogel. Interment was in the Calvary section of Hazelwood cemetery.
Mrs. Bartling was the daughter of Herman and Wilhelmina Weise Held and was born in Grand Island, Neb., on April 23, 1884. She was united in marriage with Frank M. Bartling on Jan. 4, 1905, and they moved to Grinnell that year to make their home.
Her husband was a partner with the late Dick Nuckolls in the Bartling and Nuckolls Jewelry Store here until Nuckolls' death in 1943. He continued to operate the store until his retirement in 1953 and had operated the store in the same location for 48 years.
Soon after her husband's death in August of 1958, Mrs. Bartling moved to Council Bluffs to be near her sister. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church of Grinnell and the Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. James Keliher of Council Bluffs; and three nieces, Miss Betty Costello of Council Bluffs; Mrs. John Sinnott of Des Moines; and Mrs. Al Siemssen of Omaha, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
