AN OBITUARY OF
GUSTAV SWANSON

Gustav Swanson was born in Sandhult, Sweden, seventy-one years ago this October. He came to this community about forty years ago to work in the country and later came to Grinnell to work as a stone cutter. He worked for many yeaars with R.G. Coutts, in the days when stone sidewalks were built and helped cut stone for the Methodist church and the high school building. According to Mr. Coutts, Mr. Swanson was a skilled and honest workman and a dependable and worthy citizen.

Upon the advent of cement walks Mr. Swanson went to the country and became a tiler, and was quite skilled in that occupation. Later Mr. Swanson took the position as custodian at Central park and did some excellent work for the city in that capacity. The past few years he has spent less strenuously, living in his own home on the savings he had made in is years of faithful toil.
