Miss Matilda Bailey, daughter of John and Elizabeth Bailey was born in Nobelsville, Indiana, November 6, 1840 and died at her home in Brooklyn, Iowa, January 25, 1927, a few months passed 86 years of age.

At the age of 16, she came with her mother and other near relatives to Tama County, Iowa. Her father died when she was but a girl, hence her mother had most to do with her training and development. She was married to Henry Chase at the age of 21. In 1870 they moved to Brooklyn where they made their home. Mr. Chase proceeded her in death 7 years ago.

To this union were born three children, Will, Mrs. C. E. Morse, and Ed. She also had three sisters and two brothers, all of whom have gone before. In fact the vast majority of her girl friends are on the other side and Mrs. Chase has not died, she has simply gone home. What a great reunion it will be! While our hearts are sad, we cannot help but rejoice when good people live and God permits them to come home with Him.

We have known few women who were as devoted to her home as was Mrs. Chase. Her great sorrow came when Ed passed away December 16, 1925. While Ed professed salvation in Christ, Mrs. Chase felt her personal loss very keenly. Ever after that her prayer was that she might go and be with Ed. Her prayer has been granted and her soul is supremely happy. All of us are glad we have known her and hope when our end comes, we may be worthy a place with Christ in the Eternal City.

The sympathy of many friends goes out to the bereaved in this hour of sorrow.

Funeral services were held from the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in charge of the Rev. W. J. Fowler, pastor of the Methodist church.
