Mr. and Mrs. H. Lyke are called to mourn the death of their son. The obituary notice published below is taken from the Chamberlain, S. D. Register.
The passing of Francis L. Lyke last Friday came as a shock to the neighbors and friends. Mr. Lyke had not been well for some time past, but nothing serious was anticipated. On the Sunday previous to his death he was out to Red Lake and got his feet wet. This resulted in a cold which finally went into pneumonia. It now develops that he had had waling typhoid fever and the combination of this with pneumonia was the cause of his sudden death.
Francis Leon Lyke was born near Montezuma, Iowa, Jan. 4, 1870. When a babe his parents moved to Madison township near Brooklyn, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was married in November 1891, to Myrta Bennett of Alden, Iowa, where they made their home for some years. From this marriage a family of seven children was born, five girls and two boys. In 1906 he moved to South Dakota near Chamberlain where he died October 20, 1916. Mr. Lyke was a man highly spoken of by his neighbors. He was one that could always be depended upon in time of need and his departure from this neighborhood will be keenly felt. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the stricken community.
The funeral service was held at the home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. A. J. Hoyer officiating. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his father and mother, five brothers and two sisters, who will miss his presence.
