META L. CASEY

Meta L. Casey, 93, of West Des Moines, formerly of Grinnell, died Monday, Jan. 11, at the home of her daughter in West Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Revs. Charles Henry of Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines and Lon Lewis of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler.

Pallbearers were Kathy Counts, Susan Cheney, Barbara Himmel, Bette Jean Dyjak, James A. Casey, Deborah Sanfelippo, David A. Casey, Dianne Johnson, Doreen Hullet, Duane D. Casey, Dennis L. Casey and Dana F. Casey. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

Memorials may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church or Grace United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Samuel and Elnora Spickler Snyder, she was born Nov. 11, 1899, near Tama. She attended rural school and graduated from Tama High School. Following her education she taught in rural schools.

She was married to Roy A. Casey March 1, 1922. The couple farmed near Tama, Grinnell and Gilman until 1937 when they purchased a farm south of Malcom. In 1945 they retired from farming and moved to Grinnell. Following the death of her husband in 1986, Mrs. Casey moved to West Des Moines to live with her daughter.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and Grace United Methodist Church of Des Moines.

Surviving are her children, Marjorie Casey of West Des Moines, Madolyn Braley of Montezuma, Deane Casey of Malcom and Darrell of St. Joseph, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her twin sister, Marie Hayward; and three brothers, Carroll, Virgil and Kenneth Snyder.
