BARBARA JEAN FISHER, 75

Barbara Jean Fisher, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2008, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Surviving to honor her memory are her husband of 55 years, Emerald; five children, Charles Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Larene) Fisher of Newhall, Wendy Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Faith) Fisher of Oskaloosa, and Crystal (Gary) Kerr of Marion; two sisters, Grace Niccum of San Jose, Calif., and Betty Uthoff of Independence; her brother, William (Leilani) Pecher of Fallon, Nev.; six grandchildren, Janis, Krista, Allison, Veronica, Caleb, and Deborah Jean; and five great-grandchildren, Michael, Dalton, Cody, Levi, and Breanna.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Barbara was born May 19, 1933, in Moline, Ill., to Rudolph and Ruth Ploog Pecher. She married Emerald Fisher on Sept. 7, 1953, in Brooklyn. After graduating from St. Luke's School of Nursing, she held many different nursing positions before becoming director of nurses at the Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren. She loved nature, cooking, and was an avid Cubs fan. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and spending time with them.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
