MRS. BROYLES SERVICES HELD

Petranella McCart Broyles, 76, of 1114 Elm St., Grinnell, died Sunday, Nov. 25, at Grinnell General Hospital. Death was attributed to cancer.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Philip Arnold of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and piano music was provided by Mark Kinser. A nephew, Dennis Smith of Muscatine, was in charge of flower arrangements.

Pallbearers were Ellis Brown, Lyman Case, Keith Gregory, Wendell Kooistra, Allen Latcham, and Richard Sanders. Honorary bearers were George Clifton, Bob Mitchell, Tom Sanders and Paul Wilson. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Edmond and Ida Jane Caldwell McCart, she was born Dec. 5, 1903, at Humeston. She was educated in the Wayne County schools and at Des Moines University.

On Aug. 16, 1927, she was married to H.P. Broyles. The couple lived at Cambria, where she taught elementary school.

They moved to Grinnell in 1929 when Mr. Broyles joined the former York Lumber Co.

Mrs. Broyles was a member of the United Methodist Church here and participated in women's group activities. She was also a member of the Searchlight Club.

Survivors include her children, Joyce Bodenhamer of San Diego, Calif., and Betty Gerber of Moraga, Calif.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer McCart of Corydon and Leo McCart of Deming, N.M.; and a sister, Mardell McCart Smith of Memphis, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and her husband, who died in February of this year.
