DIES SUDDENLY AT
HOME HERE SUNDAY

Dr. Donald V. Dow, 67, of 1926 Park St., died suddenly at his home Sunday noon.

Long a practicing dentist here, Dr. Dow had spent most of his life in the Grinnell community.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational church with the pastor, the Rev. Robert D. Dewey, officiating. Masonic graveside services will be conducted at Hazelwood cemetery by members of Hermon Lodge No. 273, AF & AM. Lodge will be opened at 1 p.m.

Those desiring may contribute to the Community Hospital building fund. Friends may call at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home.

The son of Ludwell (Ludlow) and Lea Fitz Dow, he was born on March 10th, 1897, in Grinnell. A near lifelong resident of this community, he graduated from Grinnell high school and attended Grinnell College for two years.

During World War I he served in the U.S. Navy for two years on a destroyer. Following his discharge he continued his college education at the school of dentistry at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1923.

He established his dentistry practice in Colfax, where he spent eight years. In 1931 he returned to Grinnell where he established his office and practiced until his retirement in 1962.

On July 21st, 1921, he was united in marriage with Gladys Smith. To this union, two children were born: Mrs. Harold (Donna) Wallis of Denver, Colo.; and Harold Dow, who died on June 23rd, 1944.

Dr. Dow was a member of the First Congregational church, Masonic lodge, American Legion, and the American Dental Society.

In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his four grandchildren, Linda Kay, Richard, Robert and Roger Wallis, all of Denver, Colo.
