RITES FOR MRS. JOHN
KETELS HELD FRIDAYFuneral services for Mrs. John (Hulda) Ketels were held at 2 p.m. in the Steffy Funeral Home on Friday, June 7. The Rev. Martin Gruneich officiated. Music was provided by Miss Alice Underwood, organist.
Casket bearers were Hubert Gray, Earl DeJong, Autumn Watts, Wayne Fleming, Sammy Gorsuch and William McCaulley. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery.
Mrs. Ketels, 87, passed away Wednesday, June 5, at Grinnell General Hospital.
The daughter of Beatrice and Julius Paetz, she was born in Germany on Oct. 8, 1880. She grew up in Germany where she was educated and baptized in the Lutheran faith.
She came to Blairstown, Iowa and on Sept. 23, 1909, she was united in marriage to John Ketels. To this union seven children were born.
Mr. and Mrs. Ketels farmed in the Blairstown community until 1930, when they moved to the Montezuma community. In 1945 they retired and moved to her present home in Montezuma.
Mrs. Ketels was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Harry.
Survivors include two sons, Walter and Fred of Montezuma; four daughters, Ellen Stites of Des Moines, Minnie Richards of Clinton, and Hilda Wood and Mary Elliott of the home; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters in Wisconsin; and other relatives.
