James Hillman, one of the old settlers of Lincoln township, died of pneumonia at the house of his son, Thursday, April 21. In 1855 he came to Poweshiek county, and entered the land in Lincoln township which he converted into an excellent farm. He was a man of probity and honor. In all of the privations and hardships of pioneer life he was patient and cheerful, and many of the blessings that we now enjoy were brought to us by such as he. He took great interest in the cause of education, and every movement that had for its object the betterment of the condition of the people found in him an enthusiastic supporter. He leaves behind him a widow and three children. The funeral took place Saturday, interment in the U. P. cemetery near Guernsey.
