ALMA JOHNSON

Alma Johnson, 99, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman, with the Rev. Stephen Miller, pastor of the Gilman Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating.

The daughter of Joseph and Cinderella Watkins Bender, she was born Jan. 5, 1892, on a farm near Gilman. She attended rural school.

She was married to Carl Roseland, and the couple farmed near Dunbar. Mr. Roseland died in 1944 and she continued to live on the farm.

She was married to Carl Johnson in 1946, and the couple lived in Gilman. She had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since June 1977.

Surviving is a brother, Floyd Bender of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by both her husbands; four sisters, Grace Medhus, Nina Mitchell, Elsie Benson and Mable Bender; and four stepchildren, Guy Johnson, Art Johnson, Lucille Helebrant and Florence Lasswell.
