HELD TODAY FOR
BYARD EDWARDSByard Edwards, 67, Grinnell, died Thursday afternoon at the Veterans hospital in Iowa City, following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. E.E. Beattie officiating. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery with military graveside services conducted by the Grinnell American Legion post.
The son of Byard and Lydia Blodget Edwards, he was born on Sept. 30th, 1893 at Butte, Nebr. He moved to the Ewart community in 1928 and farmed until 1942 when he came to Grinnell and worked at the carpenter and painting trade.
He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Army in France.
Mr. Edwards is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Elvera) Galbraith of Grinnell, Mrs. William D. (Margie) White of Newton, Mrs. Oral (Violet) Stuart of Des Moines; three sons, Francis Byard Edwards of Kansas City, Mo., Paul Dean Edwards of the U.S. Army, Herschel Eugene Edwards of Marshalltown; a brother, Cecil Edwards of Spencer, Nebr.; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Rife of Miles City, Mont., and Lucy A. Long of Freeport, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren and three step grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth, who died in infancy.
