MRS. S.A. HODGDON

Mrs. S.A. Hodgdon, formerly a resident of Chester township, died at the home of her son, A.S. Hodgdon, in Hoquiam, Wash., on Sunday, Sept. 17, aged 89 years. The following facts concerning her life are taken by The Herald from a copy of the Daily Washingtonian, published in Hoquiam:

Mrs. Hodgdon was born Hannah E. Jenkins on May 21, 1827, in New Hampshire. On Feb. 12, 1854, she was married in New Market, N.H., to Samuel A. Hodgdon. They lived until 1870 in Clinton county, New York, moving from there to Barnstead, N.H. In 1880 they moved to Chester and Mr. Hodgdon engaged in farming until 1892, when on account of his failing health they moved to Knoxville, where their son, A.S. Hodgdon, was located. In 1894 they moved to Hoquiam.

Mrs. Hodgdon is survived by three sons, A.S. and C.W. Hodgdon of Hoquiam, and A.E. Hodgdon of Springfield, Mo., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1911 and her only brother died in New Hampshire the Thursday before she died, but on account of her feeble condition she was not told. A sister resides in Center Barnstead, N.H.

Mr. and Mrs. Hodgdon celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Hoquiam on Feb. 12, 1904, with all three of their sons present.

Mrs. Hodgdon died after an illness of three weeks, during which she gradually became weaker until the end. Funeral services were held on Sept. 19 and the body was taken to Tacoma for cremation.
