RITES HELD FOR
SAMUEL CROSBY,
FORMER RESIDENT

Samuel H. Crosby, former well known Grinnellian, died Thursday, April 12, in Washington, D.C., where he hed been serving as hearing commissioner for the National Production Authority.

Death was due to cancer after an illness of two years. He had lived in Arlington. Funeral services were held in Washington and burial was made there.

Crosby attended Grinnell college, where he graduated in 1902. During his student days he was instrumental in the founding of Uncle Sam's club, which is still serving the youth of Grinnell. Following graduation here he studied law and for a number of years practiced in Grinnell.

During that period he served for some months as city manager. He was also connected with the college for some years. Later he became associated with a class mate, "Cap" Harris, in an extensive Texas real estate operation under the name of the Grinnell-Texas Company, in which considerable Grinnell capital was invested.

He practiced law in Denver, Colo., and in Texas and later in Vermont, where he became active in politics. He came to Washington in 1938 as trial examiner for the Federal Power Commission. In 1944 he became legal counsel for P. Helley Coe and Associates, utilities consultants in New York, returning to Washington in 1951 to take the position with the National Production Authority.

Crosby is survived by his wife, Sarah; a daughter, Mrs. Herman C. Stouffer; and two adoped children, Theodore E. and Sylvia Ann Crosby.
