MRS. J.W. BARNUM
DIED FRIDAY EVENING;
FUNERAL THIS P.M.

Mrs. Nancy Agnes Barnum, wife of J.W. Barnum, passed away Friday evening in a local hospital after a long period of failing health. She would have been 84 years old on her next birthday on Feb. 16.

Funeral services in charge of Rev. Leland W. Mann were held this afternoon at the James funeral home. Pallbearers were Croft Pilgrim, Raymond Norris, E.C. Turner, Carl E. Child, Ross Coutts and Clair Strand.

Mrs. Barnum was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Corrough, longtime residents in the community. She attended Grinnell college in the class of 1892 but did not graduate. Later she graduated in nurses' training in Chicago and was a nurse for some time in a Chicago hospital.

She was married in 1911 to Mr. Barnum and they lived for some years in Great Falls, Mont., coming to Grinnell to make their home in 1939.

Mr. and Mrs. Barnum had no children. One sister, Belle Corrough, now lives in Hampton. She was an aunt of J.G. Shifflett.

In her earlier years Mrs. Barnum taught for a time in the Brooklyn schools. She was active in Chapter BM, P.E.O., as long as her health permitted.
