ABBIE M. JACK

Abbie M. Jack, 87, of Grinnell, and formerly of Montezuma, died on Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center of complications of a broken hip. Her funeral service was held Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Ron Bryan of Oskaloosa officiating.

Interment was at the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Casketbearers were her grandchildren, LaRayne Fenton, Heather Fuson, Tracy Stevens, Scott Jack, Kimberlea Harvey, Vincent Johnson III, Eric Johnson, Jeff Little, Mark Little and Julie Cline.

Abbie was born on May 23, 1918, on the family farm in Sugar Creek neighborhood near Lynnville. She was raised on the family farm and attended the Black Oak Country School.

On Dec. 10, 1938, she was married to Wilbur L. Jack at the former Friends Church near Lynnville. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm near Montezuma and she was a homemaker. The couple moved to Seeland Park in Grinnell five years ago.

Abbie was an avid gardener and enjoyed raising flowers and canning vegetables. She put many loving stitches in numerous quilts for her family. Besides quilting she also enjoyed needle point and crocheting. For the past few years she liked to solve find-a-word puzzles.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbur Jack, of Grinnell; two sons, LaVerne Jack of Montezuma and Keith Jack and his wife, Vicki, of Montezuma; two daughters, Karon Jonhson and her husband, Vincent II of Montezuma and Kathy Little and her husband Jerry of Montezuma; ten grandchildren, LaRayne Fenton, Heather Fuson, Tracy Stevens, Scott Jack, Kimberlea Harvey, Vincent Johnson III, Eric Johnson, Jeff Little, Mark Little and Julie Cline; nineteen great-grandchildren; her brother, Ralph Speas and his wife, Fritzy, of Stow, Ohio; and two sisters-in-law, Geneva Speas of Lansing, Mich., and Doris Edgington and her husband, Harold, of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Harold, Floyd, Clarence, Howard, Eldon and Joe Speas; and two sisters, Edith Onthank and Grace Van Donselaar.
