The Grinnell (IA) Herald; June 1899

OBITUARY.

Dr. Willard H. Harris died at Pasadena, California, on the 22nd day of June, 1899, of tuberculosis. He was born in Grinnell on the 22nd day of March, 1859, and was consequently forty years and three months old at the time of his death. He obtained his education in the public schools of this city, and subsequently studied medicine at Bennett Medical College in Chicago, from which he graduated in 1881. He entered upon the practice of his profession at Fairplay, Colorado, and remained there for a few years, when he was employed by a coal mining company as surgeon and physician for their employees, near Bismark, North Dakota. After remaining there for a short time, the same company having engaged in the coal mining business at Roselyn, Washington, he was transferred to that place where he had made his home, up to the time of his death. For more than two years his health has not been good, and a few weeks ago he telegraphed to his brother C.E Harris, to come and assist him in closing up his business and take him to Arizona, the climate of which he hoped might prove beneficial to him. His brother promptly responded and with as little delay as possible started to Arizona, by way of Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Before he reached the place for which he started, and at Pasadena, California, he died suddenly, as above stated. He was highly esteemed as a physician and surgeon, and was popular in the community where he lived. He had never married and leaves of near relatives, only his father and three brothers. The remains were cremated in California and the ashes will be brough home by his brother.
