MRS. C.A.C. HARRIS
Maggie A. Ferguson, beloved wife of C.A.C. Harris, was born in Jefferson, Ohio, October 23rd, 1852, where she grew to young womanhood. On April 11th,1878, she was married to Mr. Harris and shortly afterward moved to Montezuma, Iowa, where they made their home until about eighteen years ago when they moved to Los Angeles, California, where they have since resided.
Mrs. Harris has been declining in health for the past two years, and Thursday morning, April 27th, she quietly came to her last sleep at the family residence, 2214 Ocean View Ave., Los Angeles.
Three children came to bless the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harris: Josephine, who passed away eleven years ago; Walter, now residing in Williamsburg, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Rapp, who has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Harris for a number of years and for the past two years has tenderly and lovingly cared for her mother.
In early life Mrs. Harris united with the United Presbyterian church, but on coming to Montezuma she cast her lot with the Presbyterian church and was one of the devoted members. The religious training of her childhood in the beautiful Psalms of her church and the all-important catechism were never forgotten and were fresh in her memory through all the years. She was especially fond of poetry and loved to recite the beautiful poem of J.G. Holland, "The Baptism of Katharine."
Mrs. Harris was ambitious and took pride in keeping her house adorned, beautiful and comfortable. She was given to hospitality and was always happy in entertaining her friends. It was her peculiar pleasure to attend the annual picnics and meet and greet her old Iowa friends.
The devotion of Mr. Harris to his wife during the forty-four years of their married life has been loyal, loving and true, and in parting hours, most pathetic, prayerful and pleading. May He who guides the stars in their courses, guide this family in the true and living way. May He who died to redeem this world from sin save this entire household to make an unbroken family around the throne of God.
The funeral services were conducted from the home of Rev. C.V. Cowan of Pasadena in the presence of a large circle of friends Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Two favorite selections of Mrs. Harris were sung, "The Shepherd Psalm" and "Abide With Me."
A wealth of most beautiful floral tributes were tokens of the friendship in which Mrs. Harris was held by a large circle of friends.
The remains were tenderly and lovingly put to sepulchre in the beautiful cemetery at Hollywood to await the resurrection morn.
C.V. Cowan.
