MRS. LYMAN LONGLEY

Alice L. Howard, daughter of Eliza Ann Bartlett and Benoni Howard, was born in Grinnell April 22nd, 1859, and died March 29, 1915, in the Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, after a stay there of five motnhs in a vain hope of regaining health.

After the death of her mother, October 27th, 1864, Alice made her home with her grandfather, S.N. Bartlett, and her uncle, E.S. Bartlett, until her marriage to Lyman A. Longley, September 11th, 1882. Mr. Longley died March 29th, 1909, before quite completing the home he was building on the farm two and a half miles west of town. He was the first male child born in Chester township. It was a remarkable coincidence that Mrs. Longley's funeral took place exactly six years to a day, after Mr. Longley's body was carried to the grave.

Mrs. Longley's long invalidism has been made as comfortable as possible by the untiring devotion of the two children, Ethel C., and Ralph L., who have spared neither trouble nor expense in ministering to their mother during her last days.

The funeral services were held at the home near Grinnell, Wednesday, March 31st, Professor Charles Noble officiating; and the burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.
